KATHMANDU: Kenya has intensified health screening and surveillance measures at all entry points to prevent the potential spread of Ebola virus disease.

President William Ruto said the government has heightened border vigilance as part of efforts to minimize any risk of infection entering the country.

He confirmed that enhanced screening systems have been deployed, particularly at key international entry points.

At Jomo Kenyatta International Airport in Nairobi, health screening procedures have been significantly strengthened. Airport authorities have increased monitoring in international arrival zones, with passengers arriving from high-risk countries being directed to a separate designated gate for specialized screening.

According to the Border Management Unit, Gate 16 has been exclusively assigned for travelers coming from Ebola-affected or high-risk regions to ensure more controlled and focused health checks.

Following an inspection of airport facilities, Public Health and Professional Standards Secretary Mary Muthoni stated that the government has adopted strict containment protocols to prevent any possible entry of the virus. She emphasized a coordinated “multi-agency approach” involving health, immigration, and security bodies.

She further noted that staffing levels at all border points have been increased, with personnel deployed in shifts to maintain continuous monitoring and rapid response capacity.

Under new health protocols, all travelers entering Kenya are now required to complete an online self-declaration health form before immigration clearance. The form mandates disclosure of recent travel history and current health status as part of mandatory entry requirements.
