KATHMANDU: Kathmandu Valley is experiencing a sharp rise in air pollution, leaving the sky hazy and blocking sunlight.

From early morning, the city’s atmosphere has been thick, reducing visibility and disrupting both road traffic and air travel.

Increased dust and smoke particles in the air are causing eye irritation and breathing discomfort among residents.

According to the Department of Environment, the Air Quality Index (AQI) in the valley has reached hazardous levels.

Meteorologists attribute the surge in pollution to the prolonged absence of winter rainfall and smoke carried from wildfires in other parts of the country.

Health experts have urged children, the elderly, and people with chronic respiratory illnesses to stay indoors, and those who must go outside are advised to wear high-quality masks.

With little chance of heavy rainfall or strong winds in the coming days, the polluted conditions are expected to persist.

Authorities have appealed to the public to minimize vehicle use and avoid burning waste to reduce further air contamination.
