Jordan airstrike destroys drug & arms smuggling sites on Syrian border
The armed forces stated that the strike was based on accurate intelligence and detailed operational data.
KATHMANDU: Jordan’s Armed Forces carried out an early morning airstrike on Sunday targeting locations used by drug and arms smugglers along its northern border with Syria, the military confirmed in an official statement.
According to the army, the operation destroyed facilities including factories, workshops, and warehouses that were being used by smuggling networks to transport illegal materials into Jordanian territory. These sites had reportedly served as key operational hubs for cross-border illicit activities.
The armed forces stated that the strike was based on accurate intelligence and detailed operational data. The operation was described as a precise intervention aimed at curbing the growing flow of illegal drugs and weapons into the country.
The military also noted a recent increase in smuggling attempts along the border area. Jordan has been conducting similar operations in recent years to dismantle drug trafficking networks operating near its northern frontier with Syria.
Despite ongoing security coordination and high-level cooperation between Jordan and Syria in defense and security matters, authorities say the smuggling threat remains a persistent challenge in the region.
