KATHMANDU: Inter Milan have kept their hopes alive of reaching the Round of 16 at the ongoing FIFA Club World Cup in the United States, pulling off a thrilling 2-1 comeback victory over Japan’s Urawa Red Diamonds.

Urawa stunned the Italian giants early on, with Ryoma Watanabe scoring in the 11th minute to give the Japanese side the lead. Inter struggled to find the equalizer, facing a determined Urawa defense.

However, the breakthrough came in the 78th minute when Lautaro Martínez produced a sensational overhead kick to level the score.

The match seemed headed for a draw until substitute Valentín Carboni struck deep into injury time to seal the win for Inter.

With this result, Urawa Red Diamonds have been eliminated from the tournament.

Inter now top Group E with four points, boosting their chances of progressing to the knockout stage.
