KATHMANDU: Two people were injured in a Portland, Oregon, shooting involving U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officers, just a day after a fatal shooting in Minneapolis.

The Portland incident occurred Thursday afternoon near a local hospital, according to the Associated Press. Witnesses said one person was initially shot, followed shortly by another seeking help after being struck by gunfire.

Portland City Council Chair Alana Portal-Gini confirmed that the victims are local residents.

The FBI has launched a federal investigation, while updates on the victims’ conditions are still awaited.

The back-to-back shootings have intensified tensions between the Trump administration and local governments.

Portland Mayor Keith Wilson and the City Council issued a statement calling for a halt to all ICE operations in the city until a full investigation is completed.

“Portland is not a testing ground for militarized agents. We are deeply concerned about violations of citizens’ constitutional rights and the risk of bloodshed,” the statement read.

Meanwhile, Oregon Democratic Senator Jeff Merkley accused President Trump of attempting to incite unrest and urged residents via social media to remain calm and avoid provocation.

The Minneapolis shooting on Wednesday resulted in the death of 37-year-old Renee Nicole Good, a mother of three and poet, sparking protests in the city.
