KATHMANDU: Cervical cancer is increasingly becoming a major health challenge for women in Nepal. On average, four women lose their lives to the disease every day.
Globally ranked as the fourth most common cancer among women, cervical cancer holds the second-highest prevalence in Nepal, claiming over 2,000 lives annually.
To reduce this risk, the Government of Nepal has been implementing a nationwide HPV vaccination campaign.
This year, the campaign targets girls aged 11 to 14, running from Feb 8 to 27.
The program covers schoolgirls from grades 6 to 10, as well as out-of-school girls aged 10.
According to the Ministry of Health and Population, the campaign aims to vaccinate approximately 350,000 girls across the country.
Launched in Chitwan and Kaski in 2016, the initiative has gradually expanded nationwide in recent years.
