KATHMANDU: Hospitals and health institutions have been warned of legal action after multiple complaints emerged of insured patients being denied services and proper treatment, the Health Insurance Board said.

The board noted that some service providers under the national health insurance program have either refused to deliver services or caused unnecessary hardship to insured patients.

It urged all listed health institutions to ensure smooth and accessible healthcare services without delay.

According to the board, patients have faced issues such as being forced to take prior appointments to access insured services, discriminatory treatment toward insured individuals, and the failure to provide essential medical services and medicines.

The board emphasized that such practices violate the Health Insurance Act, 2074, the Health Insurance Regulations, 2075, and other prevailing laws.

It has instructed all service providers to strictly comply with legal provisions and maintain fair treatment standards.

Executive Director Krishna Prasad Paudel stated that any health institution found guilty of breaching the rules during monitoring will face action as per the Health Insurance Act, 2074.
