KATHMANDU: Faf du Plessis of Biratnagar Kings made headlines in the second edition of the Nepal Premier League by scoring a blistering half-century against Sudurpashchim Royals.

He reached his fifty in just 19 balls, equalling the fastest half-century record in the tournament.

Previously, Bhim Sarki of Kathmandu Gorkhas and foreign player Harmit Singh of Sudurpashchim Royals had also achieved 19-ball fifties—Sarki against Pokhara Avengers and Singh against Kathmandu.

Last season, Jimmy Neesham of Janakpur Bolts held the record for the fastest half-century in 18 balls.

The ongoing NPL season has now witnessed a total of 33 half-centuries, with Sam Hazzlett of Biratnagar Kings registering the 33rd today against Sudurpashchim Royals.

These half-centuries have been shared among 29 players so far.

In this season, Ravi Bopara of Chitwan Rhinos leads with three half-centuries, while Kushal Bhurtel of Pokhara Avengers and Priyank Panchal of Karnali Yaks have scored two each.

Only Mark Watt of Karnali and Adam Rossington of Pokhara have managed to reach the century mark in the tournament so far.
