KATHMANDU: Tulsipur High Court, Butwal Bench, has ordered the release of Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) President Rabi Lamichhane on bail.

The bench, comprising Chief Justice Basudev Acharya and Justice Tejnarayan Paudel, directed that Lamichhane be released upon payment of a fine equivalent to the court’s requirement.

Lamichhane, who was previously ordered to remain in custody, will now be freed from Nakkhu Jail after depositing the specified amount.

The court canceled its earlier decision to keep him detained, noting that it was willing to accept a fine in place of custodial obligations.

However, co-accused former DIG and former Gorkha Media director Chhabilal Joshi will remain in custody.

The court noted that Joshi’s bail petition was not properly submitted with the requisite amount.

According to High Court spokesperson Ram Bahadur Kunwar, Joshi can apply for bail at Bhairahawa District Court by submitting a bank guarantee equivalent to the required amount, after which a decision on his release will be made.

Lamichhane must now appear at Bhairahawa District Court and submit the fine to complete the bail process.
