KATHMANDU: Chitwan Rhinos defeated Biratnagar Kings by 48 runs in the Nepal Premier League (NPL) 2025 on Wednesday, with Ranjit Kumar’s five-wicket performance putting an end to the Kings’ winning run.
The match took place at the Tribhuvan University International Cricket Ground in Kirtipur.
Chasing a challenging target of 175, Biratnagar was bowled out for 126 in 16.5 overs.
The victory took Chitwan to four points from three matches, while Biratnagar, with six points, suffered their first defeat of the season.
Biratnagar lost early momentum, losing four wickets in the powerplay and five wickets for just 39 runs.
Sam Heazlett scored 22 off 11 balls, and Merchant de Lange added 39 off 22 balls. In a late surge, Pratish GC contributed 30 runs off 12 balls.
However, Ranjit Kumar’s brilliant five-wicket haul conceded only 21 runs, marking his first five-wicket performance of the season. Kamal Airy also chipped in with two wickets.
Earlier, Ravi Bopara’s half-century helped Chitwan post 174/5 in 20 overs. Bopara top-scored with 65 runs off 38 balls, hitting three fours and four sixes.
This was his third consecutive half-century this season, following similar efforts against Karnali Yaks and Lumbini Lions.
e shared a crucial 56-run partnership with captain Kushal Malla for the fifth wicket, while Malla remained unbeaten on 20.
Chitwan had a shaky start, losing both openers for 24 runs. Deepak Bohara contributed five, and David Malan added 17 before being dismissed.
Dev Khanal made 28 before being caught off Sandeep’s bowling, while Sam Heazlett took a stunning catch near the boundary.
Zaib then scored 32 off 30 balls, including a four and a six.
