Chief of Army Staff Open Marathon 2082 concludes

KATHMANDU: The ‘Chief of Army Staff Open Marathon Competition 2082’ concluded today at the Nepali Army Headquarters, Kathmandu.

The event was organized on Saturday by the Nepali Army Physical Training and Sports Centre, where Chief of Army Staff Ashok Raj Sigdel formally inaugurated the competition during a special ceremony.

This year’s competition was held under the slogan “Strong Unity, Secure Nation.”

Under the competition, a 42.195-kilometre full marathon for men and 21-kilometre half marathons for both men and women were conducted.

In the full marathon event, runners securing first, second, and third positions will receive cash prizes of Rs 300,000, Rs 200,000, and Rs 100,000 respectively.

Similarly, in the half marathon category, both male and female athletes finishing first, second, and third will be awarded Rs 100,000, Rs 75,000, and Rs 50,000 respectively.

A 10-kilometre race was also organized with the participation of army officers, army associates, employees working at military institutions, serving and retired army personnel of all ranks, and children of both military and civilian personnel studying in Grades 10 to 12.

Likewise, a 5-kilometre walkathon was held, in which Chief of Army Staff Ashok Raj Sigdel, along with military and civilian participants, took part.

Students studying in Grades 7 to 9 at military schools also completed a 5-kilometre race.

In both the 10-kilometre and 5-kilometre races, winners securing first, second, and third positions in both men’s and women’s categories will receive cash prizes of Rs 10,000, Rs 7,000, and Rs 5,000 respectively.

The marathon competition, which has been organized every year since 2072 B.S. on the occasion of Maha Shivaratri and Army Day, marked its 11th edition this year.

The event featured five different race categories and witnessed the participation of around 2,500 runners.

This year, Maha Shivaratri and Army Day fall on Falgun 3.
