KATHMANDU: Chelsea secured their spot in the knockout stage of the FIFA Club World Cup in the USA by defeating ES Tunis 3-0 in their final group match.

Striker Liam Delap scored his first goal for Chelsea since joining the club from Ipswich earlier this month for £30 million.

Delap opened his account in the fifth minute of added time in the first half.

Just two minutes before Delap’s goal, defender Tosin Adarabioyo headed in from Enzo Fernandez’s free-kick to give Chelsea the lead. Tyreik Wright sealed the victory with a goal in the final minute.

With this win, Chelsea finished as runners-up in Group D with 6 points, behind Flamengo who topped the group with 7 points. Chelsea will face Portuguese giants Benfica in the Round of 16.

Benfica topped Group C after a 1-0 win over Bayern Munich, thanks to Andreas Skeldrup’s 13th-minute goal. Benfica ended with 7 points, while Bayern Munich advanced with 6 points.

Chelsea now prepare for a tough knockout clash against Benfica, aiming to continue their strong run in the tournament.
