KATHMANDU: The Management Committee of the National Academy of Medical Sciences, Bir Hospital, has decided to strictly enforce attendance and workplace discipline across all staff.

From April 14, office hours will be from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM, and during Nov 1 to Jan 29, 2027, from 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM.

Staff arriving late must inform their respective departments with valid reasons, and failure to comply may result in half-day leave deduction.

The directive applies to doctors, nurses, health workers, and administrative staff, who are required to be present during office hours and complete their assigned duties.

In case of unavoidable absence, staff must notify administration through their respective in-charges.

To strengthen hospital discipline and service quality, the committee has formed 14 key initiatives, including the establishment of Cleanliness Audit and Attendance Audit Committees.

The Cleanliness Audit Committee is chaired by Sangita Shrestha, Nursing Administrator, while the Attendance Audit Committee is chaired by Dr. Minchandra Adhikari, Assistant Director.

Doctors are required to clearly mention their name, NMC number, and signature on patient forms, discharge reports, and other records, failing which legal action may be taken.

All health workers must also wear ID cards or aprons at all times.

The management will also introduce performance-based incentives for doctors and health staff working in OT, Cath Labs, and evening shifts.

Pharmacy services will be upgraded to ensure medicine availability and timely service, with patients informed about available stock.

Director Dr. Dilip Sharma emphasized that these measures are in line with government-mandated health sector reforms and are expected to make Bir Hospital’s services more organized, transparent, and accountable.
