MOGADISHU: NOV. 19 – On Friday, an explosion at a local market in the southern Somali town of Bardale killed at least five people and injured 12 others, according to officials.

According to local security officials, a remotely controlled improvised explosive device (IED) planted by al-Shabab militants exploded at a market in the Bay region.

The market is requested by a number of buyers and sellers, the majority of whom are nomads who sell their livestock on market day. On Fridays, it is also home to several shops frequented by villagers from distant districts.

Although no group has claimed responsibility for the latest attacks, the al-Shabab group has previously staged similar attacks in Mogadishu and elsewhere in the country.
