272 dogs, 2 cats sterilized in Kalika Municipality
The municipality launched the campaign, saying there is a high risk of spreading of the disease from community dogs and cats as they come into contact with wild animals.
NARAYANGADH (Chitwan): Kalika Municipality in Chitwan district launched a campaign of sterilizing and vaccinating community dogs and cats with anti-rabies vaccine to prevent spread of rabies.
The municipality launched the campaign, saying there is a high risk of spreading of the disease from community dogs and cats as they come into contact with wild animals.
Veterinarian at the municipality, Dr Raju Prasad Neupane, mentioned that the campaign was launched in all wards of the municipality, where 272 community dogs and two cats were sterilized and vaccinated against rabies from March 26-28.
Such a programme was also launched last year, he shared. The government has set a goal to eliminate dog and cat-mediated human rabies in Nepal by 2030 in line with global ‘Zero by 2030’.
Similarly, such a campaign was launched under ‘Animal Birth Control’ programme for this purpose. Around 150 dogs and cats were also sterilised last year.
