KATHMANDU: A serious accident occurred in Denmark on Thursday when two local passenger trains collided, leaving 18 people injured, according to North Zealand Police.

Authorities confirmed that five of the injured are in critical condition.

Initial reports suggested around 38 passengers were on board, but Danish broadcaster DR later updated the figure to 37 confirmed passengers.

The collision took place on the Gribskov railway line between Hillerød and Kagerup, approximately 50 kilometers north of Copenhagen.

Emergency response teams were quickly dispatched to the scene following the incident, carrying out rescue and medical operations.

Police Inspector Morten Pedersen described the event as a “very serious accident.”

Authorities have launched a detailed investigation to determine the exact cause of the collision.
