176,000 receive services from KMC health centers
The health department has allocated 3.9 percent of the city’s total budget to the health sector, focusing on improved service delivery and system strengthening.
KATHMANDU: Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC) has reported that its health promotion centers have provided services to 176,291 people so far in the current fiscal year up to the end of Chaitra.
According to the Chief of the KMC Health Department, Deepak Kumar K.C., a total of 73,504 people received outpatient (OPD) services during this period, reflecting a significant increase compared to previous fiscal years.
He noted that in fiscal year 2080/81, out of 124,044 total service users, 35,966 had accessed OPD services. Similarly, in fiscal year 2081/82, OPD services were provided to 59,059 out of 194,193 total beneficiaries. Based on current trends, KMC estimates that nearly 240,000 people will receive health services this fiscal year.
The health department has allocated 3.9 percent of the city’s total budget to the health sector, focusing on improved service delivery and system strengthening. Evaluation is conducted across governance and management, clinical service management, and institutional support service areas, covering 20 sub-sectors, 336 indicators, and weighted scoring systems.
KMC currently operates health promotion centers in every ward, providing a wide range of services including primary healthcare, health insurance support, safe maternal and child health services, safe abortion care, tuberculosis control, pharmacy services, and integrated newborn and child disease management.
Additional services include leprosy control, geriatric care, Ayurveda treatment, chronic disease management, and dengue control programs.
Preventive and promotional health services include national immunization programs, family planning, non-communicable disease control, awareness campaigns, and communicable disease prevention initiatives.
