UML moves to impeach Deputy Speaker Ranamagar
Parliamentarians’ signatures are being rapidly collected at the UML parliamentary party office in Singha Durbar for this purpose.
KATHMANDU: The ruling CPN-UML has begun preparations to file an impeachment motion against Deputy Speaker Indira Ranamagar.
Parliamentarians’ signatures are being rapidly collected at the UML parliamentary party office in Singha Durbar for this purpose.
On Tuesday morning, UML instructed its MPs to urgently attend a meeting at the parliamentary party office.
According to a lawmaker, MPs were told to attend for “discussion on an urgent and important matter” and to provide their signatures.
Meanwhile, the main opposition Nepali Congress has also instructed its MPs to be present at their parliamentary party office by 12 PM on Tuesday.
A party source stated that the Congress leadership meeting is still ongoing.
The controversy stems from a letter sent by Deputy Speaker Ranamagar, along with four others, to the U.S. Embassy regarding visa interviews.
The ruling coalition has expressed outrage over the letter, claiming that Ranamagar violated her official position and questioning her ethics.
Ranamagar, constitutionally a member of the Constitutional Council, faces additional political pressure as Congress no longer has representation in the council.
The ruling coalition had previously attempted to remove her from the post.
