KATHMANDU: Two people died on Sunday morning after a helicopter crashed in New Zealand’s Southern Alps, police confirmed.
According to a police statement, emergency services were called to the South Island crash site around 9:50 a.m. local time.
The helicopter was a chartered aircraft transporting members of a hunting group.
Authorities said the two victims were the only people onboard when the crash occurred in Mount Aspiring National Park.
Three other members of the hunting party were found on the ground and safely rescued.
Police have launched an investigation into the cause of the crash.
