KATHMANDU: Teachers working under the Federal Learning Grant program staged a protest at Maitighar Manadla, Kathmandu on Tuesday, expressing strong dissatisfaction after their demands were not addressed in the fiscal year 2083/84 budget.

The protesting teachers are demanding a fair salary increase, cost-of-living allowance, incentive pay, and inclusion in the social security system.

They are also calling for guaranteed service continuity and the implementation of past agreements made with the government.

According to the teachers, around 11,000 educators teaching English, Mathematics, and Science are affected.

They have urged the government to ensure job security during teacher redeployment, grade adjustments, or school mergers, and to prevent forced retirement due to age limits.

They have also demanded that work experience be considered with additional marks in Teacher Service Commission examinations.

The protesting group has warned that if their demands continue to be ignored, they may escalate their protest, including disrupting academic activities and even submitting mass resignations.

They further stated that the authorities concerned will be fully responsible for any resulting disruption in the education sector.
