KATHMANDU: Syria has closed the Jdeidet Yabous border crossing with Lebanon, disrupting trade and travel between the two neighboring countries.

Syrian authorities announced the closure a day earlier, citing security concerns after Israel warned of a possible strike in the area.

The crossing, located opposite Lebanon’s Masnaa border point, is a key transit route linking the two nations.

The Israeli military has accused Hezbollah of using the road for military purposes and signaled potential plans to target routes leading to the Masnaa crossing.

However, Syrian officials stressed that the Jdeidet Yabous crossing is designated strictly for civilian use and denied any military activity.

They added that the crossing will remain closed until the security situation stabilizes, with efforts underway to restore normal operations as soon as possible.
