KATHMANDU: The Governor General of the Solomon Islands, David Tiva Kapule, has announced that a parliamentary election to choose a new prime minister will be held on May 15.

The decision comes after Prime Minister Jeremiah Mane was removed from office when a no-confidence motion was passed in the National Parliament on Thursday.

The motion succeeded with 26 votes in favour and 22 against.

According to the election schedule, nominations for both ruling and opposition candidates will be open from May 8 to May 10.

Following this process, the National Parliament will convene on May 15 to formally elect the country’s next prime minister.
