MAHENDRANAGAR (Kanchapur): The hospitals and health institutes in the province have faced a shortage of anti-rabies vaccines for two weeks.

The vaccines are emergency medication for the people suffering from bites of dogs, jackal and other animals.

A vector control officer at Sudurpaschim Province Health Secretariat, Hemraj Joshi, informed that the province government had allocated Rs 1 million for the procurement of vaccines to treat rabies, which sufficed till two months back.

But, we are now facing shortage, he added.

The government hospitals provide anti-rabies vaccines for free of cost.

But, the service seekers are now forced to buy it from private hospitals and health facilities following the short supply.

The Social Development Ministry in the province, however, wrote to health offices, district hospitals and local levels to take measures for managing the vaccines.
