KATHMANDU: Former Kathmandu mayor and senior leader of the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP), Balen Shah, has officially registered his candidacy for the House of Representatives from Jhapa-5.
He submitted his nomination on Tuesday at the Election Officer’s office in Damak.
A large crowd of supporters welcomed Balen during the registration, with hundreds attending the event, showcasing cultural performances, traditional music, and energetic slogans.
Balen, projected by RSP as a potential future prime minister, is set to face a high-stakes contest against CPN-UML chairman and former Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli.
Political analysts note that Balen’s entry into Jhapa-5, considered a stronghold of the UML, has made the electoral battle highly competitive and a focal point of national attention.
