KATHMANDU: A rare wild musk deer was successfully rescued by wildlife conservation workers after becoming trapped inside an old city wall in Shannan City, located within the Tibet Autonomous Region, Chinese authorities have confirmed.

The region, known for its diverse landscapes and rich biodiversity, is home to several nationally protected species, including first-class protected wildlife.

According to local officials, the female musk deer was discovered trapped within the boundary of an ancient wall in Namtsailing village. The animal was in a vulnerable condition, with prolonged entrapment posing serious risks of dehydration, exhaustion, and possible death.

Upon receiving the report, wildlife conservation officer Penma Gyalpo quickly mobilized a rescue team. After nearly an hour of coordinated effort, the team successfully freed the animal without causing injury.

Following the rescue, the musk deer underwent a basic health check and first aid treatment. Officials confirmed that the animal was in stable condition and was later released back into its natural habitat.

Conservation authorities stated that rescue operations for protected species continue to be a priority, alongside broader efforts to preserve biodiversity and safeguard wildlife across the region.
