Opposition protest stalls National Assembly, session adjourned
The next meeting has been scheduled for Thursday at 1:15 PM.
KATHMANDU: The National Assembly meeting on Tuesday was adjourned without entering its scheduled agenda after continued obstruction by opposition lawmakers.
Due to persistent protests inside the chamber, the session was unable to proceed and was postponed.
The next meeting has been scheduled for Thursday at 1:15 PM.
National Assembly Chair Narayan Prasad Dahal expressed concern over the ongoing political deadlock, criticizing both the government and political parties for failing to hold meaningful consultations to resolve the crisis.
He said the current situation, where parliamentary sessions repeatedly begin with slogans and end in adjournment, is not acceptable.
He urged both the government and political parties to act with greater responsibility and urgency to restore normal parliamentary functioning.
Addressing the House, Chair Dahal remarked that the state of politics has not translated into a solution felt by citizens.
He stressed that neither the government side nor the parties have shown sufficient initiative for dialogue.
He further warned that the continuous disruption of parliamentary proceedings risks making both the legislature and the nation feel “held hostage” by political confrontation, calling for an immediate end to the impasse.
Opposition parties have been obstructing parliamentary sessions demanding that Prime Minister Balen Shah clarify and withdraw his controversial remarks related to the Nepal–India border issue and issue a public apology.
