Oil company director held over underweight packaging case
A total of 905 cartons of sunflower oil were also seized during the operation.
KATHMANDU: Police have arrested Bijay Shrestha, the director of Omkar Oil Industries Pvt. Ltd., a sunflower oil manufacturer producing “Chhahari” and “Omkar” brands, on allegations of selling underweight packaged oil.
According to the Kathmandu Valley Crime Investigation Office, Shrestha was taken into custody after complaints that the company was distributing sunflower oil with less quantity than the labeled standard during packaging.
Police said the factory, located in Lele, Godawari Municipality–5 of Lalitpur, was found to be operating in violation of packaging standards.
A total of 905 cartons of sunflower oil were also seized during the operation.
Authorities had received intelligence suggesting that the company was systematically selling underfilled oil packets.
Subsequent investigation confirmed discrepancies in weight, police added.
Further investigation has been handed over to the District Police Range, Lalitpur.
