KATHMANDU: The government has decided that citizenship will no longer be required for students to pursue education up to the undergraduate level.
The move is part of a broader plan to implement structural reforms in the education sector.
The decision was announced by the cabinet led by Prime Minister Balendra Shah on Friday as part of its ‘100-Point Governance Reform Agenda.’
Point 88 of the agenda instructs universities to immediately prepare the necessary procedures to allow students to enroll in undergraduate programs without the need for citizenship.
The agenda states, “Universities shall promptly establish procedural arrangements to allow students to study up to the undergraduate level without requiring citizenship.”
In addition, the government plans to ensure timely publication of academic results according to the academic calendar.
Starting from the upcoming academic session, internal examinations up to Grade 5 will be discontinued and replaced with an alternative assessment system.
