NEPSE index falls for fourth straight session; turnover drops sharply

KATHMANDU: The Nepal Stock Exchange (NEPSE) index declined again on Thursday, falling by 17.01 points or 0.60 percent to close at 2,787.15 points, marking its fourth consecutive day of losses.

Market turnover also dropped significantly, falling to Rs 5.09 billion from Rs 7.81 billion a day earlier, according to NEPSE.

A total of 348 listed companies saw 11.37 million shares traded 93,907 times during the session.

While 46 companies posted gains, 216 declined and seven remained unchanged, reflecting broad-based weakness across the market.

Most sectoral indices ended lower. The hotel and tourism sector led losses with a 1.42 percent drop, followed by finance (1.06 percent), hydropower (1.05 percent), non-life insurance (1.19 percent), and banking (0.76 percent).

All major groups, except manufacturing and trade, closed in the red.

On the gainers’ side, Palpa Cement Industries and Shikhar Power Development surged by 14.99 percent each, while Corporate Development Bank rose 9.24 percent.
