NEPSE index drops 26.72 points as market turns bearish

KATHMANDU: The benchmark index of the Nepal Stock Exchange declined by 26.72 points on the trading day, closing at 2,755.37.

According to the exchange, the Sensitive Index, which tracks the performance of large-cap companies, also fell by 4.78 points to 470.72.

Despite expectations of a post-budget positive momentum, the market slipped by 0.96 percent, indicating weak investor sentiment.

A total of 349 companies were traded during the session, with 13,383,816 shares exchanging hands, amounting to a turnover of Rs 5.61 billion.

Among active stocks, Ankhu Khola Hydropower Company led in turnover, followed by Nepal Reinsurance Company, Himalayan Reinsurance, Ridi Power Company, and National Hydro Power Company.

In terms of gains, Nepal Reinsurance Company, Kalinchowk Hydropower, Citizen Bank Debenture, Central Finance, and Civil Bank Debenture ended the day in positive territory.

On the downside, Bunglal Hydropower, Crest Micro Life Insurance, Vishal Bazar Company, NIBL Samriddhi Fund II, and Nepal Republic Media were among the major losers.

Out of 13 sub-indices, only two closed higher, while the remaining 11 ended in negative territory, reflecting broad-based weakness across sectors.
