KATHMANDU: Nepalgunj customs reported a significant rise in herbal exports this fiscal year.

According to Pavitra Kumar Khadka, information officer at Nepalgunj Customs Office, over Rs 25 crore worth of herbs were exported through Nepalgunj by the end of Mangsir.

A total of 841,338 kg of various herbs, including timur, kaulo, sattuwa, bojho, cinnamon, and amala, were exported—an increase of more than Rs 10 crore compared to the same period last year, which saw exports worth Rs 14.62 crore.

Tank Sharma, president of the Nepalgunj Herbal Entrepreneurs Association, said 85% of these exports go to India.

He noted that herbal exports have been rising in recent years, but challenges remain, such as bureaucratic procedures in Himalayan districts and the lack of plant quarantine listings for recognized herbs, which complicates international trade for small businesses.
