KATHMANDU: Nepal registered a dominant nine-wicket victory over the United States in the ICC Cricket World Cup League 2 at the Tribhuvan University Cricket Ground in Kirtipur on Friday.

Chasing a target of 196 runs, Nepal comfortably reached 196/1 in just 36.4 overs, thanks to a brilliant opening partnership between Kushal Bhurtel and Aasif Sheikh.

Bhurtel starred with an unbeaten century, smashing 120 runs off 118 balls with 13 fours and four sixes. Aasif also played a crucial role, scoring 58 runs from 72 deliveries, including eight boundaries.

The pair added 154 runs for the opening wicket to put Nepal firmly in control of the chase.

Earlier, the United States were bowled out for 195 runs in 43.3 overs after Nepal produced an impressive bowling display.

Dipendra Singh Airee led the attack with four wickets, while Sompal Kami claimed two wickets. Sandeep Lamichhane and Gulshan Jha chipped in with one wicket each.

For the United States, opener Smit Patel top-scored with 84 runs off 89 balls, hitting eight fours and three sixes. Shehan Jayasuriya contributed 50 runs from 52 balls.

With the victory, Nepal moved to 20 points in the League 2 standings and remained in seventh place. Canada are sixth with 21 points, while Namibia sit fifth with 22 points.

The United Arab Emirates are at the bottom with 14 points, while Scotland lead the table with 38 points.
