Former Coach Al Mutairi appointed head coach of Afghanistan

KATHMANDU: Abdullah Almutairi, the former head coach of the Nepali national football team, has been appointed as the head coach of Afghanistan.

ANFA named Almutairi as head coach on 4 April , 2021.
He resigned on Sept 12.
Nepal reached the SAFF Championship final for the first time under the leadership of Almutairi, who led the Nepali national side from 2021 to 2022.
His stay in Nepal, however, was cut short owing to a disagreement with the players during closed training for the third round of AFC Asian Cup qualifiers.
He was left without a team after stepping down as head coach of the Nepali national team.
For 525 days, Almutairi was Nepal’s head coach.
Last Ashoj (Sept/OctOct), Nepal lost to India in the SAFF final held in the Maldives and was deprived of the title.
Similarly, Nepal played the second round of AFC Asian Cup qualifiers under the leadership of Almutairi.
According to the Afghan Football Association, Al Mutairi will shortly begin practicing with the national squad.
