EC begins temporary voter registration for proportional voting

According to the Commission, the program has been approved in line with Section 30 of the Voter List Act, 2073 and the Temporary Voter List Procedure, 2082.

KATHMANDU: The Election Commission has decided to begin the collection of a temporary voter list for the upcoming election of members of the House of Representatives under the proportional representation system.

According to the Commission, the program has been approved in line with Section 30 of the Voter List Act, 2073 and the Temporary Voter List Procedure, 2082.

Commission spokesperson Narayan Prasad Bhattarai said that details of voters eligible to be included in the temporary voter list must be certified by the concerned office heads and submitted to the Chief Voter Registration Officer, Provincial Election Officer, or District Election Officer between Poush 19 and Magh 18.

The collected list will be published, followed by a period for claims and objections, verification, and investigation.

After completing this process, the final temporary voter list will be published.

The Commission stated that the temporary voter list will include individuals whose names already appear on the final voter list published by the Commission, including employees of the Government of Nepal, provincial governments, and local levels; employees working in institutions owned or controlled by the federal or provincial governments; members of the Nepali Army, Nepal Police, and Armed Police Force Nepal stationed in barracks; detainees and prisoners in prisons; individuals residing in care homes operated by or approved by the federal, provincial, or local governments; and office bearers of constitutional bodies.
