KATHMANDU: Deputy Speaker Indira Rana is currently visiting the United States. According to the Secretariat, she departed on Shrawan 30 and is scheduled to return on Bhadra 13.

The Secretariat has described the visit as a personal trip.

However, while Rana is abroad, efforts to remove her from office have reportedly begun.

The Nepali Congress and CPN-UML have started collecting signatures to push for her dismissal. Sources say the two major parties are still discussing the matter, and no final decision has been made yet.

Rana is alleged to have used her official letterhead to send correspondence related to U.S. visas, reportedly attempting to facilitate travel for other individuals.

Previous attempts to remove her were stalled due to opposition, preventing the process from moving forward.
