KATHMANDU: Actor Dayahang Rai’s first film of the year, “Mitajyu”, is set to hit theatres from Jestha 8 (May 22).
The film, based on the theme of bonded friendship, features Rai in the role of a rural driver
The teaser shows intense confrontations between him and actor Saugat Malla, which has already sparked strong audience interest.
Rai shared that he had first read the script around eight years ago and found the story highly engaging even then.
However, due to his busy schedule and later the COVID-19 pandemic, the project was repeatedly delayed.
He eventually managed to commit time to the film last year, describing the experience as enjoyable and meaningful.
He describes “Mitajyu” as a story rooted in relationships and friendship.
According to him, the film explores family bonds, friendship, and professional struggles through the lives of three drivers operating on a route between a village and a city.
It reflects the emotional and practical dilemmas they face while balancing work pressures and family responsibilities.
Rai also said that his character in the film is very deep and significantly different from his real-life personality, though it is inspired by realities he has observed and experienced.
He believes audiences will be able to connect the story with today’s social and political context.
Clarifying his on-screen relationship with Saugat Malla, Rai noted that their dynamic in “Mitajyu” is very different from their previous collaborations like “Loot” and “Kabaddi.”
He explained that their characters are driven by different motivations, and the reason behind their conflict in this film is entirely new.
He added that while audiences may initially assume one kind of relationship between them, the story ultimately unfolds in a very different direction.
