Congress demands immediate NA session
National Assembly members Kamala Devi Panta, Kiran Babu Shrestha, Bishnu Sapkota, and Padam Pariyar were also present during the meeting.
KATHMANDU: The Nepali Congress has formally demanded the immediate convening of the National Assembly session, holding talks with National Assembly Chair Narayan Prasad Dahal on Sunday.
A delegation led by Krishna Bahadur Rokaya, Chief Whip of the Nepali Congress in the National Assembly, met Chair Dahal to brief him on the decision of the Congress parliamentary party and to convey the party’s demand.
National Assembly members Kamala Devi Panta, Kiran Babu Shrestha, Bishnu Sapkota, and Padam Pariyar were also present during the meeting.
The demand follows a meeting of the Nepali Congress parliamentary party held on Poush 10, which concluded that the current political situation in the country has become highly complex after what the party termed the “unconstitutional dissolution” of the House of Representatives. The party decided to call for the immediate summoning of the National Assembly in response.
The Nepali Congress argued that since the National Assembly is currently the only functioning chamber of the sovereign Federal Parliament, it is essential for the Assembly to meet without delay to ensure parliamentary oversight and to raise the voices of the people amid the prevailing political uncertainty.
