KATHMANDU: Arsenal climbed back to the top of the Premier League after securing a hard-fought 1–0 victory over Newcastle United at Emirates Stadium.

The decisive moment came early, as Eberechi Eze found the net in the ninth minute, converting a well-worked set piece to hand the hosts an early advantage.

Arsenal had briefly dropped to second place following Manchester City’s 1–0 win over Burnley earlier in the week, but this victory sees them reclaim pole position in the title race.

Newcastle showed flashes of threat, with Sandro Tonali testing goalkeeper David Raya in the first half, only to be denied by a sharp save. After the break, Yoane Wissa squandered a clear chance to equalize, leaving the visitors frustrated.

The defeat extends Newcastle’s losing streak to four matches, keeping them down in 14th place on the table.

With the win, Arsenal move three points clear of Manchester City, although Pep Guardiola’s side still have a game in hand due to their FA Cup commitments.
