KATHMANDU: Four former prime ministers have entered the upcoming House of Representatives elections.

CPN-UML Chairman and former Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli is contesting from Jhapa-5. Similarly, Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’, Coordinator of the Nepal Communist Party and former prime minister, is running from Rukum East-1, while the party’s Co-Coordinator and former Prime Minister Madhav Kumar Nepal will contest from Rautahat-1.

Dr. Baburam Bhattarai, Patron of the Progressive Democratic Party and former prime minister, will run from Gorkha-2.

In the previous general election, Oli was elected from Jhapa-5, Dahal from Gorkha-2, and Nepal from Rautahat-1. Dr. Bhattarai had supported Dahal during that election.

Meanwhile, Sher Bahadur Deuba, former House Speaker and former prime minister from Nepali Congress, who had been continuously elected from Dadeldhura since 1991, is not contesting this time due to internal party issues.

Candidate nominations for all 165 constituencies under the first-past-the-post system are being registered nationwide ahead of the upcoming elections.
