Truck hits govt vehicle in Dhankuta, injuring two

KATHMANDU: Two people were injured after a truck collided with a government vehicle on the Dharan-Dhankuta section of the Koshi Highway at Rudrabari, Dhankuta Municipality-9, on Thursday afternoon.

According to police, a truck (Province 1-02-002 Kha 0460) heading towards Dhankuta hit a vehicle (Ba 1 Jha 6624) belonging to the District Education Development and Coordination Unit, which was traveling from Tehrathum to Biratnagar.

The accident left 33-year-old Kalpana Luintel Poudel of Dhankuta-10 and her three-year-old son Hemanta Poudel injured. Kalpana suffered a head injury, while Hemanta sustained a nose injury.

Both have been taken to Nobel Hospital in Biratnagar for treatment.

Police at Mulgahat Post have taken the truck driver, Binod Rai of Shahidbhumi Rural Municipality, Dhankuta, into custody. Both vehicles sustained damage in the crash.

Preliminary investigations suggest that the truck driver was under the influence of alcohol at the time of the accident, according to District Police Spokesperson DSP Om Prakash Khanal.
