Minister Sudi expresses commitments to implementing CEDAW Committee recommendations
Minister said the matters are directly concerned with the Ministry and it is aware of its roles in implementing the Convention effectively.

KATHMANDU: Minister for Women, Children and Senior Citizens, Nawal Kishor Sah Sudi, has said the government is ready to implement recommendations of the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Violence against Women (CEDAW) Committee.
During an interaction with media organised here today by the Forum for Women, Law and Development (FWLD) regarding the conclusions and the recommendations of the recent CEDAW 90th Session, the Minister said the matters are directly concerned with the Ministry and it is aware of its roles in implementing the Convention effectively.
The Committee report has incorporated both progress and challenges that Nepal faced during the advancement of gender equality.
The effective implementation of legal and policy provisions towards that end is the major concern of the Ministry. We are always ready to cooperate with civic society in the implementation of efforts aimed at addressing such challenges, he said.
“The government is fully committed to ending all sorts of violence against women with total enforcement of its national and international commitments and legal and policy structures are being strengthened accordingly,” Minister Sudi said, describing the CEDAW as a significant instrument for prompting the rights of women and the human rights.
National Women Commission’s Chair Kamala Parajuli called for focusing on the enforcement of provisions for women, indigenous and ethnic communities incorporated in the CEDAW.
Nepal Samajbadi Party (Naya Shakti) Vice Chair Durga Sob and FWLD Chair Gita Aryal called for effective implementation of the CEDAW for the empowerment of women.
