KATHMANDU: President Ram Chandra Paudel inaugurated the Sherpa and Himalayan Indigenous New Year, Gyalpo Lhosar 2152, at a special ceremony held at the Presidential Palace, Sheetal Niwas, today.
Marking the occasion, President Paudel commenced the celebrations by cutting “Femar,” a traditional Sherpa delicacy.
Speaking at the event, he emphasized that festivals like Gyalpo Lhosar strengthen social harmony, tolerance, and fraternity among Nepalese, reinforcing national unity.
Highlighting Nepal’s multicultural identity, he acknowledged the distinct traditions, languages, and customs of various ethnic communities.
He lauded the Sherpa and Himalayan Indigenous communities for preserving and promoting their rich heritage, language, religion, art, and traditions.
He also praised their contributions to Nepal’s tourism and economic growth.
The event featured an insightful address by Khenpo Lama Acharya on the significance of Lhosar, along with cultural performances, including traditional Sherpa songs and Syabru dance.
