KATHMANDU: Prakriti Lamsal, a 20-year-old third-year B.Tech student from Nepal, was found deceased in her hostel room at Kalinga Institute of Industrial Technology (KIIT) in Bhubaneswar, Odisha.

Investigations suggest that harassment by the accused may have led to Lamsal’s tragic decision.
Following the incident, over 500 Nepali students at KIIT staged protests demanding justice for Lamsal.
In response, the university administration initially issued a notice directing all Nepali students to vacate the campus immediately, leading to confusion and distress among the students.
This decision was later revoked, and the university appealed to the Nepali students to return to campus and resume their classes.
The situation drew attention from the Nepalese government, with Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli stating that the Nepalese Embassy in New Delhi had dispatched two officers to counsel the affected students.
As of now, the campus remains under heightened security, and the investigation into Lamsal’s death is ongoing.
The university administration has expressed its commitment to restoring normalcy and ensuring the safety and well-being of all students.
