KATHMANDU: A 46-year-old U.S. citizen, identified as Ni Yan, was arrested on Saturday afternoon by police for attempting to smuggle foreign currency abroad illegally.
She was detained at the Tribhuvan International Airport’s departure hold baggage area while preparing to board a Batik Air flight to Malaysia.
During the search, authorities uncovered $12,748 in U.S. dollars, 249 Singapore dollars, 12,000 Indonesian rupiahs, 100 Malaysian ringgits, 19 mobile phones from various companies, 28 SIM cards, and 122 memory cards in her bag.
She has been sent to the Gaushala Police Circle for further investigation and legal action.
