KATHMANDU: The three-day 7th Nepal Agritech and Nepal Food & Beverage International Expo, which began on Friday, is set to conclude on Sunday in Kathmandu.

The expo has been instrumental in introducing innovative agricultural technologies and services suitable for Nepal, with the potential to boost agricultural productivity and enhance self-sufficiency in the sector.

Experts and industry professionals believe the event has significantly promoted the use of modern technology in farming.

Various domestic and international agricultural equipment companies showcased their products, aiming to enhance awareness and adoption.

Muktinath Krishi Company Limited’s Deputy General Manager Ramsharan Timalsina stated that the expo serves as a platform for business exchanges at both national and international levels.

He emphasized that the event facilitates the export of Nepali agricultural products and services while ensuring the import of essential, high-quality farming equipment.

Parvati Ghimire, who runs Krishi Solution in Nepalgunj, noted that the use of agricultural machinery is increasing in Nepal, especially in rural areas where youth migration has led to a higher dependence on farming tools.

However, she pointed out that Nepal still relies on imports from China and India due to the lack of local production.

Kumar Shakya, a distributor of Germany’s Stihl Company, mentioned that while the demand for tree-cutting machines is rising, other farming tools are yet to gain expected traction.

He also revealed that after experiencing issues with low-quality Chinese products, his company shifted to collaborating with German manufacturers for better quality assurance.

The expo featured a diverse range of agricultural and food industry segments, including poultry, fisheries, livestock, dairy, farm machinery, veterinary services, and food processing technologies.

Separate stalls for each sector were set up at the venue, with free entry for visitors.
