KATHMANDU: By-elections are being held on Sunday for 41 vacant local level positions across the country.
Voting is taking place for one municipal mayor, one deputy chair, two rural municipality chairs, four vice-chairs, and 33 ward chairs.
Voting started at 7:00 AM, with 58% voter turnout reported by the Election Commission’s spokesperson, Nita Pokhrel Aryal, by 3:00 PM.
According to Aryal, around 226,799 people are expected to exercise their voting rights by 5:00 PM.
A total of 376 candidates from 20 political parties and independents are competing in the by-elections.
There are 162 polling stations and 293 polling centers set up for the election.
The Election Commission plans to release the results within two days.
