By-election: DPM Singh votes in Kathmandu-16

KATHMANDU: Deputy Prime Minister and Urban Development Minister Prakash Man Singh voted in the by-election for the ward chairperson of Kathmandu Metropolitan City-16 on Sunday morning.
He cast his vote at the polling station in Paknajol.
The by-election was necessitated following the demise of Mukunda Rijal, who was elected ward chairperson in 2022 from the Nepali Congress.
Speaking briefly with the media after voting, Singh commended the election arrangements, stating they were well-managed. He expressed optimism that more citizens would exercise their voting rights later in the day, despite the cold morning discouraging early turnout.
Singh encouraged voters to participate actively, emphasizing the importance of selecting a capable ward chairperson.
“The weather is chilly in the morning, but once the sun comes out, I believe more people will turn up to vote,” he remarked. “The arrangements are excellent, and I urge all eligible voters to use this opportunity to elect a good ward chairperson. This is your right—make the most of it.”
The by-election features candidates from four major parties: Devendra Pathak (Nepali Congress), Laxmiratna Tuladhar (CPN-UML), Rojina Shrestha (Rastriya Swatantra Party), and Min Bahadur Manandhar (Unified Socialist, supported by CPN-Maoist).
