EC seeks clarification from 6 candidates for code of conduct violations

KATHMANDU: The Election Commission (EC) has sought clarification from six candidates for violating the code of conduct.

During an overnight monitoring by the Commission’s observation team, it was found that these candidates had engaged in electoral activities in violation of the code of conduct.

The Commission’s spokesperson, Nita Pokharel Aryal, confirmed this to Makalu Khabar.

The candidates include both party-affiliated and independent contenders from Kirtipur Municipality and Ward 16 of Kathmandu Metropolitan City.

The six candidates are:

  • Rajman Maharjan (Independent candidate for Mayor of Kirtipur Municipality)
  • Shiva Sharan Maharjan (Maoist Centre candidate for Mayor of Kirtipur)
  • Rojina Shrestha (Rastriya Swatantra Party candidate for Kathmandu 16)
  • Min Bahadur Manandhar (Unified Socialist candidate for Ward Chair of Kathmandu 16)
  • Pashupati Kathayat (Swatantra candidate for Ward Chair of Kathmandu 16)
  • Sam Shakya (Swatantra candidate for Ward Chair of Kathmandu 16)

These clarifications have been sought ahead of the upcoming by-elections for 41 local levels across the country, scheduled for Dec 1.
