Brunei offers financial aid for fire, storm victims

BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN: Thirty-eight families affected by recent fires, house collapses, and strong wind incidents have received financial assistance from the Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Foundation of Brunei, local media reported on Friday.
According to the local daily Borneo Bulletin, the foundation held a ceremony in Bandar Seri Begawan, the capital city of the Sultanate.
Hj Nazmi Hj Mohammad, Brunei’s minister of culture, youth and sports, distributed 38,050 Brunei dollars (28,335 U.S. dollars) in financial aid to assist the families affected by a fire incident, two house collapses and 35 instances of damage caused by strong winds.
Brunei is an oil-rich country located in the northern part of Borneo Island, with a population of 340,000 citizens and a high level of social welfare.
