PM Oli heading to Rupandehi, security tightened

KATHMANDU: Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli is set to visit Rupandehi today.
The 20th anniversary and convocation ceremony of Lumbini Buddhist University will be held on Friday.
According to Vice Chancellor Prof. Suvarna Lal Bajracharya, 289 students, including one foreign national, who have completed their studies at various levels will receive their degrees.
The graduates include 186 master’s degree holders, 88 bachelor’s degree holders, 7 Ph.D. recipients, and 8 postgraduate diploma holders. A British citizen who has completed his master’s degree will also be conferred with a degree.
During the convocation, 13 outstanding students from both undergraduate and postgraduate faculties will be awarded university gold medals.
Additionally, Bhikkhuni Dhammavati (Ganesh Kumari Shakya), who has contributed to the promotion of Buddhist education and philosophy, will be honored with an honorary Ph.D. degree. This is the first time the university is granting an honorary doctorate, according to Registrar Tilakram Acharya.
The ceremony will be attended by dignitaries, including the university’s Chancellor KP Sharma Oli, Deputy Prime Ministers Prakash Man Singh and Vishnu Prasad Paudel, along with domestic and international special guests.
Currently, there are 2,300 students, including 68 foreign nationals, enrolled at the university.
Following the Prime Minister’s visit, security arrangements in Rupandehi have been heightened.
